Today we are going to talk about Interstitial Cystitis - Bladder Dysfunction - Urinary Incontinence. Next week we will talk about Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (Non-Bacterial Chronic Prostatitis) in Males and Females (Vulvodynia).

Applications of Low‑intensity Extracorporeal Shock‑Wave Therapy in Urological Diseases via Activation of Tissue Resident Stem Cells.

“For many years, low-intensity extracorporeal shock-wave therapy (Li-ESWT) has been clinically applied as a non-invasive therapeutic method, for urological diseases. The major corresponding biological molecular mechanisms of Li-ESWT are to induce stem cell differentiation, neural regeneration, and angiogenesis. This narrative review aims to present an overview of the potential utility of Li-ESWT and its effects on stem cell therapies.

Recent studies have also shown that Li-ESWT therapy can be a new option for the treatment of not only erectile dysfunction (ED), Chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS), but also of urinary incontinence, bladder dysfunction, and other diseases.     Low-intensity extracorporeal shock-wave therapy (Li-ESWT) is a form of energy that with the appropriate dosage of energy transfer, is thought to induce beneficial effects in human tissues. Li-ESWT has been used to treat ischemic heart disease, musculoskeletal disorders, erectile dysfunction (ED), and urinary incontinence for many years. The mechanisms underlying Li-ESWT include tissue regeneration, angiogenesis, reduction of inflammation, and stem cell activation and recruitment.”

Low‑intensity Extracorporeal Shock‑Wave Therapy and Urinary Incontinence

Both clinical and preclinical studies have demonstrated that Li-ESWT is a potential non-invasive therapy for UI owing to its capability to stimulate striated muscle (also known as skeletal muscle) growth and tissue regeneration. The striated urethral sphincter plays a crucial role in continence for both men and women.”

Low‑intensity Extracorporeal Shock‑Wave Therapy and Bladder Dysfunction

“Recent research demonstrated that stem cell therapy for bladder dysfunction (BD) could be enhanced by Li-ESWT. BD is considered a suitable urologic disease for stem cell therapy because its underlying pathophysiology involves neuropathy and vasculopathy. However, previous study found that 40%–60% of samples from a BD rat model showed no response to ADSCs treatment. However, the therapeutic effect could be improved by Li-ESWT. Notably, only 52.3% of BD rats had normal voiding function after the injection, whereas up to 75.0%showed a normal voiding pattern after application of Li-ESWT” (Li-ESWT Spark Wave).

Interstitial Cystitis / Bladder Pain Syndrome

Interstitial cystitis (IC) / Bladder pain syndrome (BPS) is a chronic bladder health issue. It is a feeling of pain and pressure in the bladder area. Along with this pain are lower urinary tract symptoms which have lasted for more than 6 weeks, without having an infection or other clear causes.

Symptoms range from mild to severe. For some patients, the symptoms may come and go, and for others they do not go away. Interstitial cystitis or bladder pain syndrome is not an infection, although it may feel like one. Women with IC/BPS may feel pain when having sex. Some patients who are suffering from this condition may have other health issues such as irritable bowel syndrome, fibromyalgia, and other pain syndromes.”

There may also be lower urinary tract symptoms like a regular, urgent need to pass urine. If you or someone you know is dealing with interstitial cystitis, it would be important to recognize how to control the symptoms and relieve the pain.

A patient may feel intense pressure in the bladder as opposed to pain. The symptoms sometimes start with urinary frequency. The average person passes urine seven times a day and does not have to get up at night more than once to use the bathroom. Frequency is the need to pass urine more often than the average person both day and night.

Patients sometimes have a constant urge to pass urine, even right after urinating. A patient may not notice this as a problem because it develops gradually. In other cases, the sense of urgency is a bit more dramatic, with symptoms occurring within days. It is unusual to experience urine leaks with this condition. If you are leaking urine, it might be a sign of another problem.   What is clear is that interstitial cystitis/balder pain syndrome can affect your quality of life.

The symptoms can get in the way of your social and work life, your exercise, and your sleep. It can affect your relationships with your spouse, family, and friends. Without treatment, interstitial cystitis or bladder pain the symptoms can be a challenge sometimes to even get through your day. It is difficult to feel comfortable. Too little sleep from its symptoms may leave you tired and unhappy. For some, eating can be an issue. Sometimes symptoms get worse after a meal. It may also make you not wanting intimacy because of the pain you may experience during or after sex. Overall, this condition can cause stress.

Can Premier Shockwave Clinic’s Spark Wave Therapy Help Treat Cystitis?

Living with cystitis can be an extremely difficult and draining experience. The constant discomfort and pain associated with this condition can disturb your daily life and significantly impact your overall quality of life.

Fortunately, there is hope with Premier Shockwave Clinic’s Spark Wave Therapy. This innovative, non-invasive treatment offers a promising solution for long-lasting relief from cystitis symptoms.

By reducing inflammation and providing effective symptom management, Premier Shockwave Clinic’s Spark Wave therapy has the potential to significantly improve the quality of life for those affected by cystitis.

Premier Shockwave Clinic’s Spark Wave therapy has potential benefits for individuals with cystitis. It promotes tissue regeneration and reduces inflammation, leading to a decrease in pain and discomfort, allowing individuals to regain control of their daily lives. It is a non-invasive alternative to conventional treatments, eliminating the need for antibiotics and their potential side effects.   Furthermore, compared to other treatment options, Premier Shockwave Clinic’s Spark Wave therapy has shown promising results in clinical studies. For instance, a study that explored the use of low-energy extracorporeal shock wave therapy for interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome suggests that shockwave therapy can lead to significant improvements in symptom severity, urinary frequency, and overall quality of life for cystitis patients.

Before deciding if Premier Shockwave Clinic’s Spark Wave therapy can help you with your condition, it is important to consider several factors that may influence its effectiveness. While Premier Shockwave Clinic’s Spark Wave therapy shows positive outcomes in treating cystitis, it is crucial to recognize that some types of cystitis such as interstitial cystitis may require further examination. Treating the bladder alone with shockwave therapy may not always improve symptoms, as there could be other underlying factors such as dietary triggers, Tarlov cysts, pudendal nerve issues, or pelvic floor dysfunction.

It is important to take into consideration all the factors that may be contributing to the condition. Premier Shockwave Clinic’s Spark Wave therapy can be a valuable component of the treatment plan, but it should be accompanied by a thorough evaluation of individual needs. By consulting with healthcare professionals, patients can determine the most appropriate course of action. We have a urologist available if you wish to book a consult before taking the step.

For those who do not know, I started and founded another shockwave clinic in Ottawa on Carling Avenue. Having moved on from my former clinic, I founded Premier Shockwave Clinic (Kanata) to better help you. We have the best technology and the most qualified team. For more than five years I have had the experience of working with all the shockwave therapy devices/brands, hence I know what works best for the patients.

Premier Shockwave’s electrohydraulic shockwave therapy can eliminate the root cause of the condition instead of just treating the symptoms.

FYI... We have Financing Options Available if you need. Please check our website for more information.
